Review mileage-based freight charges against the agreed route basis

A mileage-based freight price can differ because the carrier and customer used different route definitions. Review the agreed distance source, endpoints and routing basis before treating a longer billed distance as an overcharge.

Records and measurement boundaries

Collect the rate agreement, distance-source definition, origin and destination identifiers, approved route exceptions, shipment record and invoice calculation. Preserve the route version or dated output where available. Distinguish actual traveled distance from the contractual distance basis and identify whether stops or diversions have separate terms.

Checks that resolve this question

Reproduce the contractual route calculation using the documented endpoints and applicable version. Check distance units, rounding and minimum billable distance independently. Investigate approved detours or multi-stop treatment before substituting a shorter public-map route. Where the specified distance source is unavailable, mark the calculation unresolved rather than silently using another service.

The finance and operations decision

Return a distance-input worksheet with the agreed rate and supported difference. Logistics confirms routing exceptions; procurement confirms the source rule; finance can raise a narrowly evidenced invoice query. Preserve the carrier response and any corrected future routing instructions separately from the settlement of the disputed shipment.

Limits of the conclusion

A shorter route is not automatically the billable route or operationally usable. AuditRes does not claim an activated native shipment matching engine or connection to a routing provider.
